It was Christmas of 2015. My daughter in law, Ashley, gave me a set of kitchen tools that were bright and cheery and nested together. It was a compact and useful set of spoons. My comment was, “These would be perfect in a tiny house kitchen.” Little did I know that about nine months later I’d be using those spoons in my own tiny house.
In February of 2016, Doug and I attended the big RV show in Seattle. We spent several hours walking through RVs of different sizes and styles. By the end of our day we had come to the conclusion that we could live comfortably in an RV and that they were not as expensive as we had imagined. End of day, end of conversation.
June 17, 2016. While walking through the parking lot at work I fell and broke my arm high by the shoulder. I hadn’t experienced this kind of pain before. I was miserable and unable to work for several weeks. After a few days of pain and being sequestered, Doug took pity on me, “Let’s go look at RVs at a dealership.” Smiling through the pain we headed off to Tacoma and the big RV dealerships.
We spent several hours climbing in and out RVs and in the process narrowed our list of needs, desires and budget. It looked like a 5th wheel was the vehicle for us. But where would we park it and live. Thanks to my smart phone and Google, I located an RV park that had lots the could be purchased. It was near the RV dealership we were at so we decided to take a drive and see it.
The sales person took us through the park in a golf cart. Doug whispered to me, “We are just looking, we ARE NOT GOING TO BUY ANYTHING TODAY!” About an hour later we were writing up an offer on a lot that Doug thought was particularly nice.
The next day I contacted a realtor about getting our house on the market. . . Fast forward, lot purchased, RV purchased, house sold, tiny living begun-October 2016.
